Two full days of lashing rain, dancing off the pavements
Running down the streets
Clogging the drains and drenching the land
Fields flooded, drainage ditches overflowing
Livestock stranded on higher ground
Fearing the wrath of nature’s anger

Wind whistling through the cracks in the buildings’ fabric
Angry, malevolent, insatiable
Searching, always, for the fault line
The portal, the way in, the weakest link
What are we humans but mere ephemera upon the earth
Standing fast, so far, against nature’s mighty forces

Humans will lose the fight, eventually,
One day when we are looking the other way
Nature will take over once again
And claim its rightful crown upon this earth
No man-made barriers will stay its power
For we are merely transient visitors
